Digitisation of Deutsche Post DHL trolleys

Challenge

DHL uses more than 250,000 roll containers for letter and parcel transport in Germany. More than half a million must be available in sufficient numbers at the warehouses of major customers and more than 35 parcel centres in Germany and neighbouring countries. Until now, the German Post had no overview of where rolling containers were located and in what numbers.

Solution

In cooperation with Alps Alpine and H solutions, Deutsche Post DHL implemented a localisation solution to manage more than 250,000 rolling containers as a retro-fit installation. The localisation is done via Sigfox Atlas Wifi and Atlas Native and is suitable for indoor localisation up to a few metres. Provision of the necessary network at all DHL locations.

Deutsche Post DHL can optimally deploy and utilise its rolling container fleet. The data insights enable the optimisation operational efficiency:
